The Division of Undergraduate Education at UC Merced provides students, faculty and instructional staff with resources that promote academic excellence and academic student success. The Division of Undergraduate Education serves as the central administration for centers and programs that seek to enhance the undergraduate student experience through innovative, collaborative campus partnerships.

The Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning (CETL) provides professional development, assessment and research in support of teaching and learning promotes the success of a diverse student population in a research university context. Programs including Teaching Matters, SATAL and the English Language Institute seek to foster a campus culture that values and rewards continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Center (UROC) facilitates faculty-mentored research projects and creative activities for undergraduate students across all academic disciplines through several programs. All UROC Scholars have opportunities to engage in research training, graduate school preparation, and personal development, such as diversity and leadership seminars, conference attendance, and the annual summer undergraduate research symposium.

The University of California, Washington, D.C. Program (UCDC) offers UC Merced students the opportunity to spend a term working and studying in the Washington DC area. Internships and academic coursework are designed to expose students to the American political process while attaining valuable work experience.

UC Center Sacramento (UCCS) academic internship program participants earn UC credit, maintain their financial aid eligibility, and gain valuable work experience while interning in Sacramento.

Divisional Academic Support

The Bobcat Advising Center (BAC) serves as the academic advising home for all first year (freshman) students in every major and all undeclared students in every class year. BAC launched in Fall 2018 with 8 professional academic advisors and one Director. Professional staff provide holistic, developmental advising to first years that enhances their ability to successfully pursue their academic, career, and personal goals.

A partnership with the Chemistry and Math faculty, the centers provide drop-in tutoring services for the discipline. Tutoring support is offered by graduate students and advanced undergraduates.

The University Writing Center was born out of partnership between the Library and the Merritt Writing Program. Informed by committee reports, program assessments, and research, the pilot writing center project was launched in 2014 with the goal of strengthening UC Merced’s campus culture around writing. Now a program within the Office of Undergraduate Education, the University Writing Center continues to collaborate with the Library, the Merritt Writing Program, and other constituents across campus to further develop a culture of writing at UC Merced.
